What would justify paying more for the JBL?
The purchase question is whether the JBL offer gives you something worth its price difference. Both cover the basics many buyers want: wireless ANC, EQ and two-device pairing. If Q20i costs less when you shop, those shared features make it a reasonable starting point. That is a value judgment based on features, not a listening-test result.
Do not pay for an ANC label alone
JBL calls its system adaptive; Soundcore calls its system hybrid. Neither label establishes which reduces the noise you encounter more effectively. Our previous copy implied a side-by-side listening conclusion without a test. We have removed it, along with claims that Bluetooth 5.3 guarantees a more stable connection in airports.
What the JBL premium can buy
JBL documents Ambient Aware, TalkThru and app controls for audio and video. Look at whether you would actually use those controls. Both offer EQ, so the number of presets is not a sound-quality ranking. The advertised ANC runtimes differ by four hours. If both exceed your usual time between charges, that difference need not decide the purchase.
Check the two unresolved travel details
Q20i disables ANC when connected by AUX cable. Check the JBL’s wired behavior with its support team if this is why you are considering it; we have not established a positive wired-ANC recommendation here. Soundcore also publishes conflicting quick-charge times, so we no longer award it a charging win.
When neither recommendation is enough
If your main question is which sounds better, blocks more voices or handles outdoor calls better, these documents do not answer it. Use comparable tests or try a returnable pair. A feature chart cannot substitute for that evidence.

Consider paying more if TalkThru or JBL’s app controls solve a specific need for you. Its advertised ANC runtime is four hours longer, but that alone does not demonstrate a different charging routine.

Does adaptive ANC mean the JBL blocks more noise?
The feature names describe approaches, not a common performance score. Without comparable attenuation tests in the same conditions, we cannot rank these headphones for cabin noise, voices or traffic.
Do both connect to a laptop and a phone?
Both manufacturers document two-device connections. This makes multipoint a shared feature, rather than a reason to pay extra for one. Check device compatibility and how calls interrupt playback for your own setup.
Is the Q20i definitely faster to quick-charge?
Soundcore’s product page says five minutes adds four hours, while its support FAQ says ten minutes. Because those sources disagree, we have removed the earlier charging-speed win. Do not base your purchase on that claimed edge.
Should I upgrade from a working Q20i to the 770NC?
An upgrade for better noise cancellation, call clarity or sound needs stronger evidence than this feature comparison provides. Keep the Q20i if it already meets your needs; investigate the specific weakness you want to fix before paying again.

- For wired listening, check the connection you need. Soundcore explicitly disables Q20i ANC in AUX mode; its supplied AUX cable has no microphone.
