Spec Atlas

About Spec Atlas

How we build our comparisons and why we build them this way.

What We Do

Spec Atlas publishes spec-first product comparisons across nine categories: air purifiers, dash cams, robot vacuums, standing desks, massage guns, power banks, webcams, blenders, and electric toothbrushes. Every page starts with the verified specifications that actually determine product performance — then explains what those numbers mean for specific use cases.

We don't pick a single overall winner. Different buyers have different needs, and a product that's right for an athlete doing deep-tissue recovery is a different product than the right one for someone who wants a quiet, portable option for travel. We give both answers.

What We Cover and Why

We publish comparisons only in categories where the key specifications are measurable, verifiable, and directly predictive of real-world performance:

  • Air Purifiers: CADR (cubic feet/min), coverage area, noise (dB), filter replacement cost
  • Dash Cams: Resolution, sensor model, aperture, GPS, parking mode, capacitor vs battery
  • Robot Vacuums: Suction (Pa), navigation type, runtime, bin size, obstacle avoidance
  • Standing Desks: Motor type, weight capacity, height range, lift speed, warranty
  • Massage Guns: Stall force (lbs), amplitude (mm), speed settings, noise, battery life
  • Power Banks: Watt-hours, max wattage output, port count, MagSafe support, airline rules
  • Webcams: Resolution, sensor size, autofocus type, low-light technology, FOV
  • Blenders: Motor wattage, container capacity, speed settings, warranty, noise
  • Electric Toothbrushes: Brushing technology, stroke speed, pressure sensor, modes, battery

Our Methodology

  • Specs come from manufacturers and independent certifications

CADR ratings are sourced from AHAM-certified tests. Technical specifications are taken from manufacturer datasheets and cross-referenced against independent lab measurements where available. We note when a spec is manufacturer-reported versus independently verified.

  • We don't invent data

The analysis section explains what the specs mean — it does not introduce new factual claims. Every assertion in our analysis traces back to a specific spec in the table above it. If a spec is unavailable or unverifiable, we say so.

  • Live product details stay on Amazon

Product availability, pricing, and variants change. We link to the live Amazon listing so you can confirm current details before buying. We do not display prices because they change — the Amazon listing always reflects the current offer.

  • Row-level winners, not composite scores

We don't combine specs into a single aggregate score. Each spec row identifies its winner independently, so you can see exactly where Product A beats Product B and where it doesn't. A single score hides tradeoffs; a row table exposes them.

  • We disclose affiliate relationships

Spec Atlas earns a commission when you buy through our links at no extra cost to you. This does not influence which product wins on any spec. We identify the technically superior product on each measure regardless of which earns a higher commission rate. Full details are on our affiliate disclosure page.

Why Spec Atlas Exists

Most product review sites summarize marketing copy and call it a review. "Best standing desks" lists rarely show you the actual weight capacity, whether the desk uses dual or single motors, or how the warranty terms compare. "Best massage gun" roundups rarely explain what stall force means or why it determines whether a device can actually penetrate dense muscle tissue.

Buying decisions improve when the actual specs are visible and comparable side-by-side. A 140W power bank and a 65W power bank are not interchangeable for a MacBook Pro user — but many buying guides don't show you the watt-hour figures or explain the difference. We do.

Spec Atlas exists because the right product for your use case is often not the one with the most reviews or the highest composite score. It's the one whose specifications match what you actually need.

Who Writes This

CW

Chris Weller — Editor & Founder

Chris has spent over a decade researching and comparing consumer electronics and home appliances. His focus is on the technical specifications that actually predict real-world performance — not marketing claims. Before starting Spec Atlas, he wrote about consumer technology and covered product launches across the audio, home, and productivity categories. He built this site because he was tired of buying guides that listed features without explaining what the numbers mean.

Editorial Standards and Updates

We publish comparisons only in categories where key differentiating data is available and verifiable. Pages are reviewed and updated when spec data changes, when new firmware or hardware revisions affect a spec, or when a product is discontinued. Each comparison page shows the date it was last reviewed.
