Both offer a timer and pressure feedback. The useful distinction is how that feedback reaches you and which replacement heads you want to keep buying. Start with the exact kit prices and the cost per compatible replacement head. A higher mode count alone is a weak reason to switch brands.

Philips maintains a support page for this exact code; the older ProtectiveClean HX6817/01 is a different model. Choose the kind of pressure feedback you want

Oral-B documents three pressure states on iO 3. The HX3681/23 sheet describes an audible pulsing cue and reduced vibration when pressure is excessive. Consider whether you prefer a visible cue or feedback you can hear and feel. We have not established that either produces superior dental outcomes.

Budget for the heads, not just the handle

iO heads and Sonicare click-on heads are separate systems. If you have unused compatible heads already, count them in the switching cost. Compare like-for-like packs by price per head, rather than assuming one ecosystem will always be cheaper. Do not buy a travel advantage that is absent from the box

No. The linked Amazon ASIN B09LD8T445 identifies HX3681/23, a 4100 Series model. Our earlier page called it ProtectiveClean incorrectly. ProtectiveClean HX6817/01 is a different model; check the HX code on the box rather than assuming every 4100 is identical.

Will my existing Oral-B heads fit the iO 3?

Check that they are Oral-B iO heads. The iO handle uses that specific family; ordinary non-iO Oral-B replacement heads are not interchangeable. Include the cost of switching head systems in the purchase.

Does a whitening mode make the iO 3 the better brush?
