Logitech StreamCam vs Elgato Facecam

Both the StreamCam and Facecam output 1080p/60fps footage — the resolution spec is identical. The real differentiator is the Facecam's Sony STARVIS CMOS sensor. STARVIS was designed for surveillance and security cameras where sensitivity in dark conditions is critical; adapted here for streaming, it captures significantly more light per pixel than standard webcam sensors. In a room with ambient light only (no studio lights, no key light), the Facecam produces cleaner, less grainy footage than the StreamCam.

Autofocus is where the StreamCam has a meaningful advantage. Logitech's AI face-tracking AF adjusts in real-time as you move — lean into your screen, turn slightly, stand up and sit back down, and the camera maintains sharp focus. Elgato's hyperfocal fixed lens is focused from roughly 80cm to infinity, meaning anything beyond arm's reach is sharp. At normal desk distance (60–80cm), both produce sharp images. But if you move close to the camera or your typical position is less than 60cm from the lens, the Elgato will render you out of focus.

Color science differs noticeably. The StreamCam tends to over-sharpen and boost saturation slightly in auto mode — it looks punchy on social media but is less natural for professional video calls. The Facecam's default profile is more neutral and true-to-life, which is why content creators appreciate it. Elgato Camera Hub also exposes manual shutter, ISO, and white balance controls that let you eliminate auto-exposure flickering under artificial lights — a common complaint with auto-mode webcams in offices with fluorescent lighting.

The StreamCam's built-in stereo microphone is serviceable for casual use, though many buyers in this class use a dedicated microphone anyway. Portrait mode (90° rotation) is a niche feature — useful for mobile-format streaming or TikTok recording from a desk, but irrelevant for most webcam use cases. Elgato simply doesn't offer it.

Both are plug-and-play USB-C cameras; neither requires software to function as a basic webcam. Software unlocks advanced settings on both — Logitech Capture for multi-source recording, Elgato Camera Hub for manual exposure controls. Neither software is essential for day-to-day use, but Elgato's manual controls give more creative control to buyers who want it.
