The decision between them is purely about how you use a blender day to day, and specifically how many servings you're making at once.

The BN701's 72 oz pitcher is its defining feature. Loaded with ice, frozen fruit, or a full smoothie batch, the stacked 6-blade assembly processes the entire volume in one cycle. For one or two people making a single-serve smoothie every morning before work, this workflow is faster and lower-effort than the pitcher-and-glass process the BN701 requires. The BL480 is not a compromise version of the BN701; it is a different workflow optimized for a different use pattern.
